The transformation of this Outremont residence was designed for a family of four. Coming back to their old house after spending 7 years in the Middle East, they entrusted L’Abri with the mandate to redesign it. The family was looking to modernize and open up the spaces while harmonizing this contemporary project with the residence’s heritage design.
The demolition of two bearing walls and the enlargement of the yard-facing openings serves as the basis of the new layout. This frees up the floorplan and allows for a new flowing spatial perspective. The ground floor living spaces, originally dark and closed-off, now open up to one another in line, from the front living room to the backyard. The south-facing sliding door overlooking the terrace allows the entire upper floor to bathe in natural light.
